Lundqvist Leads Rangers To Win Over Frolunda
Henrik Lundqvist helped the New York Rangers beat his former Swedish club Frolunda 4-2 Friday in a preseason homecoming game that pitted him against twin brother Joel.
Lundqvist received a long standing ovation from the sellout crowd at Scandinavium Arena before the game.
Kings Sign Trent Hunter To One-Year Deal
The Kings have signed forward Trent Hunter to a one-year contract, Kings President/GM Dean Lombardi announced today.
Hunter, 31, has spent his entire NHL career (2002-03 through 2010-11) with the Islanders. Last season he recorded four points and 23 penalty minutes in 17 games, missing most of the season with a lower body injury.
The native of Red Deer, Alberta has accumulated 229 career points and 201 penalty minutes during his eight-year NHL career. Hunter has also appeared in 14 career NHL playoff games, recording five points and six penalty minutes.
He was originally selected by Anaheim in the sixth round (150th overall) in the 1998 NHL Entry Draft. The Ducks dealt Hunter to the Islanders on May 23, 2000 for a fourth-round selection in the 2000 NHL Entry Draft.
Wings' Smith Suspended Eight Games
Red Wings defenseman Brendan Smith has been suspended for the remainder of the preseason plus five regular-season games for his hit to the head of Chicago's Ben Smith earlier this week.
Brendan Smith's suspension, without pay, covers a total of eight games. He loses $23,648.65 in salary.
LA Reaches Agreement With Doughty
The Kings have reached a verbal agreement with restricted free agent defenseman Drew Doughty on a multi-year contract, Kings President/GM Dean Lombardi announced Thursday tonight.
In just three NHL seasons, Doughty has already been named a Norris Trophy Finalist (2010) and a Second Team NHL All-Star (2010). The 6-0, 212-pound native of London, Ontario, also won a gold medal at the 2010 Winter Olympic Games (Vancouver) with Team Canada, and he represented the Kings at the 2009 NHL YoungStars event in Montreal before being honored as a member of the NHL's All-Rookie Team at the conclusion of the 2008-09 season.
Doughty, 21, statistically already ranks among the best defensemen to ever play for the Kings. His nine career game-winning goals ranks fourth all-time among Kings defensemen and his 17 career power-play goals ranks ninth all-time.
Ducks Send Jacques To AHL Syracuse
Suspended Ducks left wing Jean-Francois Jacques has been sent to the minors after clearing waivers.
Anaheim sent Jacques to Syracuse of the AHL on Thursday.
Crosby May Travel With Team
Sidney Crosby still hasn't been cleared for contact in practice but he might join the Penguins for their trip to Western Canada to open the regular season next week.
"We will see how he is feeling and doing after the weekend," Penguins GM Ray Shero told ESPN.com Thursday.
Iginla Skates Again With Flames
Flames captain Jarome Iginla skated Thursday for the first time since back spasms sent him off the ice on the first day of training camp.
The 34-year-old Iginla skated for about 20 minutes, but took no contact. The Flames remain cautious with their franchise scoring leader.
Kotalik Could Play In Europe

Sources: Wings' Smith Faces Hearing
The NHL will hold a disciplinary hearing for Red Wings defenseman Brendan Smith to address a head shot he delivered to Blackhawks forward Ben Smith in Wednesday night's game in Chicago, according to a source familiar with the situation.
The hearing will take place either Thursday or Friday, and must happen before the Red Wings' next game, which is Friday night in Detroit against the Maple Leafs.
Jason Chimera Re-Signs With Caps
The Capitals re-signed left wing Jason Chimera to a two-year contract, the team announced Thursday, according to an ESPN.com report.
The deal is for $3.5M, a source told ESPN.com's Pierre LeBrun, with Chimera receiving $1.8M the first year and $1.7M the second.
