Selanne Headed To Fifth Olympics

Veteran forward Teemu Selanne has been selected to play for Finland's hockey team at his fifth Olympics in Vancouver in February. Selanne has twice been the top scorer at the Olympics and was chosen as the best player in Turin. He won a Stanley Cup with Anaheim in 2007.

There are whispers that the Blues might be showing interest in Hurricanes center Eric Staal. Staal entered Wednesday's game with just four goals and 10 assists in 21 games this season. "He could be just having a bad season, (but) this is a guy who could do no wrong last year," said a league executive of Staal.

Linesman Seriously Injured In Canada

A 25-year-old hockey linesman was gravely injured when his neck was cut by a skate during a Junior C game on Tuesday. The incident took place in the third period of a game between the New Hamburg Firebirds and the host Woodstock Renegades. The linesman, Kevin Brown, was initially reported to be in stable condition, but Renegades owner Bill McLeod said he was told Brown is "not doing so well now."

Phoenix Coyotes defensemen Zbynek Michalek (Czech Republic) and Sami Lepisto (Finland) will each represent his country in the 2010 Winter Olympic Games in Vancouver. Michalek, 27, will be appearing in the Olympics for the first time. He represented the Czech Republic at the International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF) World Championship in 2006, 2007 and 2008, winning a silver medal in 2006.

Doughty Will Represent Canada

Los Angeles Kings defenseman Drew Doughty has been selected for the roster for his native Canada for the men's ice hockey tournament at the 2010 Winter Olympic Games in Vancouver, it was announced Wednesday. Doughty, who turned 20 earlier this month, has never participated in the Olympics before. Internationally he has represented Canada at the 2009 World Championships, with his seven points tied for fourth among defensemen in the tournament and his six assists third most among defensemen in the tournament and tied for eighth overall); at the 2008 World Junior Championships; the 2007 World Junior Under-18 Championships and the 2006 World Junior Under-17 Championships.

Columbus Blue Jackets forward Rick Nash has been named to the Canadian Olympic hockey team and defenseman Jan Hejda has been named to the Czech Republic Olympic hockey team, the club announced Wednesday. Nash and Hejda join Fedor Tyutin (Russia), Fredrik Modin (Sweden), Samuel Pahlsson (Sweden) and Milan Jurcina (Slovakia) as Blue Jackets who will compete at the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver, British Columbia.

The Phoenix Coyotes defeated the Vancouver Canucks at Jobing.com Arena tonight 3-2 in a shootout to win their 10th consecutive home game. With 10 straight home wins, the Coyotes have set a new franchise record for longest home winning streak. The previous record for longest home winning streak in Coyotes/Winnipeg Jets franchise history was nine games, accomplished during the 1992-93 season by the Winnipeg Jets (the franchise relocated to Phoenix prior to the 1996-97 season.). The Jets won nine consecutive home games from Dec. 27, 1992 to Jan. 23, 1993.
