Evander Kane Being Investigated For Sex Offense

Sabres left wing Evander Kane missed practice Sunday amid multiple reports that he is being investigated for a sex offense.

The alleged incident, first reported by the Buffalo News, is said to have taken place Sunday morning in a downtown Buffalo hotel near the First Niagara Center, where the Sabres play their home games.

Isles Place Jaroslav Halak On IR

The Islanders have placed goalie Jaroslav Halak on injured reserve Sunday because of an upper-body injury.

Halak is 10-6-3 with a 2.09 goals-against average and two shutouts in 20 games this season. The move is retroactive to last Monday.

Wild Sign Jared Spurgeon To Four-Year, $20.75M Deal

The Wild signed defenseman Jared Spurgeon to a $20.75 million, four-year contract extension that begins next season.

The deal was announced Monday before the Wild hosted the Stars.

"I think it's a fair-market-value contract," GM Chuck Fletcher said. "We were able to secure the prime years of Jared's career."

Stamkos Wants To Stay With Lightning

Lightning star captain Steven Stamkos made it clear on Saturday he wants to remain with the team long term, despite reports that he is probably on his way out of Tampa Bay.

Stamkos, who is in the final year of his contract, told the Tampa Bay Times that his representatives and the Lightning are "definitely still talking," and that he's optimistic an extension can be reached.

NHL Names Varlamov, Oshie, Koivu 'Three Stars'

Avalanche goaltender Semyon Varlamov, Capitals right wing T.J. Oshie and Wild center Mikko Koivu have been named the NHL’s “Three Stars” for the week ending Dec. 20.

FIRST STAR – SEMYON VARLAMOV, G, AVALANCHE

Varlamov went 3-0-0 with a 0.67 goals-against average, .981 save percentage and one shutout to help the Avalanche (17-16-1, 35 points) extend their winning streak to five games, their longest such run since March 25 – April 5, 2014 (6-0-0). 

SECOND STAR – T.J. OSHIE, RW, CAPITALS

Oshie paced the NHL with five goals and shared the League lead with eight points as the Capitals (24-6-2, 50 points) won all four of their games to move into first place in the overall standings.

THIRD STAR – MIKKO KOIVU, C, WILD

Koivu tied for first in the NHL with 3-5—8 in three games to lift the Wild (17-8-6, 40 points) to a pair of wins.

Coyotes Place John Scott On Waivers

The NHL's leading vote-getter for the All-Star Game, John Scott, was placed on waivers by the Coyotes on Friday.

It's the third time Scott has been waived by the team this year. The two previous times he wasn't sent down after clearing waivers; it was simply done to create roster flexibility. The enforcer, who has embraced the funny campaign to get him into the All-Star Game, has said he would likely go if voted in.

Thomas has registered two assists in five games with the Canadiens this season.

Pens Send Scuderi To Blackhawks For Daley

The Penguins have sent Rob Scuderi to the Blackhawks in exchange for Trevor Daley. Two sources said Pittsburgh was retaining one-third of Scuderi's $3 million salary.

Both players have another year left on their respective contracts after this season, with Scuderi carrying a $3.38 million cap hit and Daley a $3.3 million cap hit, according to an ESPN.com report on Monday.
