Marc-Andre Fleury Reaches 1,000 Game Milestone

Marc-Andre Fleury became the fourth goalie in NHL history to play in 1,000 games on Sunday in the Minnesota Wild's game against the Winnipeg Jets.

Martin Brodeur (1,266 games), Roberto Luongo (1,044) and Patrick Roy (1,029) are the only goalies to have played in more games than the 39-year-old Fleury, who is in his third season with the Wild. He spent the bulk of his career in Pittsburgh, making 691 appearances in 13 seasons with the Penguins.

The Toronto Maple Leafs waived underperforming goalie Ilya Samsonov and the Buffalo Sabres ended their three-goalie rotation by waiving Eric Comrie, a person with direct knowledge of the moves told The Associated Press on Sunday.

The person spoke to the AP on condition of anonymity because the teams have not announced the moves. Both players would land in the minors if they go unclaimed Monday.

Ottawa Senators owner Michael Andlauer has named president of hockey operations Steve Staios the team's new general manager, the team announced Sunday.

Dave Poulin was named senior vice president of hockey operations, having served in a similar role with the Toronto Maple Leafs from 2009 to 2014. Ryan Bowness, an assistant general manager with the Senators, is now the team's associate general manager.

Avs' Samuel Girard To Play Sunday

Samuel Girard is set to make his return for the Colorado Avalanche after receiving care from the NHL/NHLPA player assistance program.

Girard said he'll play Sunday at home against San Jose in his first game since Nov. 18. He entered the program on Nov. 24, citing anxiety and depression leading to alcohol abuse as the reason for seeking help.

Werenski was injured in the second period of Wednesday night's overtime loss to the Devils when he got tangled up with New Jersey forward Ondrej Palat. Werenski left the game unable to put any weight on his left leg.

Capitals Sign Ethan Bear To Two-Year Deal

Ethan Bear is back in the NHL following shoulder surgery after signing a two-year contract with the Washington Capitals.

General manager Brian MacLellan announced the long-expected deal with the defenseman Thursday, just over a week since Bear joined the Capitals for practice and they confirmed their intent to sign him. The contract is worth a pro-rated $4.125 million and carries a salary cap hit of $2.0625 million for the rest of this season and the 2024-25 season.
