Leafs Trade Schenn To Flyers For Van Riemsdyk

The Maple Leafs announced Saturday that the team has acquired left-winger James van Riemsdyk from the Flyers in exchange for defenceman Luke Schenn. "We are really excited by the parts of the game that James will bring to the Leafs," said GM Brian Burke. "He will provide speed, size, and finesse to our top two lines and we know that he fits those needs that we have wanted to address for some time. We thank Luke for his tremendous on and off ice contributions to our organization. He's a true professional and we wish him the very best in Philadelphia." Van Riemsdyk, 23, collected 11 goals and 13 assists in 43 games for the Flyers in 2011-12. He has 47 goals and 52 assists for 99 points in 196 NHL regular season games. Schenn, 22, scored 14 goals and added 61 assists in 310 career games with the Maple Leafs. He was the fifth overall selection in the 2008 NHL Entry Draft.

AHL Officials Erred In Allowing Fluke Goal

The AHL said its officials made a mistake in allowing a fluke overtime goal to stand in Game 3 of the Calder Cup final. The goal gave the Norfolk Admirals a 1-0 win Wednesday night and a 3-0 series lead over the Toronto Marlies.

Former Hurricanes and Maple Leafs coach Paul Maurice is headed to the KHL, where he'll coach Metallurg Magnitogorsk, he confirmed in a text. "Official as of ten minutes ago," he texted Friday morning. Maurice said former NHL goalie and Hurricanes assistant Tom Barrasso will join his staff in Russia.

Eakins Signs Extension To Coach Marlies

Brian Burke, President and GM of the Maple Leafs, announced Monday that Dallas Eakins has signed a three-year extension to remain head coach of the Marlies of the AHL. Eakins' assistant coaches Gord Dineen and Derek King have also signed extensions to continue with the Marlies. "Dallas is a wonderful teacher for our players in the American Hockey League," said Burke. "He has a great understanding of the game and what it takes to be a successful professional player, both on and off the ice. He's a huge contributor to our overall hockey organization and we are pleased to have Dallas and the entire coaching staff under contract." Eakins, 45, became the third head coach in Marlies history on August 4, 2009. With their appearance in the current Calder Cup Final, the Marlies are the Maple Leafs first AHL affiliate to play in the league championship since 1991-92.
