Leafs Sign Leo Komarov To One-Year Deal

Brian Burke, President and GM of the Maple Leafs, announced Tuesday that the club has signed forward Leo Komarov to a one-year contract. Komarov, 25, was originally the Leafs' seventh choice, selected 180th overall in the 2006 NHL Entry Draft. The forward spent the past three seasons with Moscow Dynamo of the Kontinental Hockey League (KHL). In 2011-12, he played 46 games for Moscow Dynamo collecting 24 points on 11 goals and 13 assists with 58 penalty minutes. Komarov has represented Finland at the past four IIHF World Championships. At this year's World Championship he played 10 games, scored one goal and earned four penalty minutes. He was a member of Finland's 2011 World Championship gold medal winning team and also participated in the 2006 and 2007 World Junior Championships.

Toronto's championship hockey drought could soon come to an end, thanks to the Marlies. The Marlies defeated the Barons 3-1 on Friday night to win their series in five games and advance to the Calder Cup final. The AHL affiliate of the Maple Leafs won the Western Conference title.

The Canadiens have hired Rick Dudley as their new assistant GM, the team announced Friday. Dudley, a former coach and player, was the director of player personnel with the Maple Leafs this past season.

Leafs Sign Petter Granberg To Entry Deal

Brian Burke, President and GM of the Maple Leafs, announced Thursday that the club has signed defenceman Petter Granberg to a three-year entry level contract. Granberg, a 19-year-old native of Gallivare, Sweden, played this past season for Skelleftea AIK of the Swedish Elite League. He registered four points and 10 penalty minutes in 38 regular season games. Granberg also appeared in 19 playoff games, as Skelleftea AIK were SEL championship finalists. Granberg won a gold medal with Sweden at the 2012 IIHF World Junior Championship, collecting one assist and four penalty minutes in five games. The defenceman was selected by the Maple Leafs in the fourth round, 116th overall, in the 2010 NHL Entry Draft.
