Fenway Sports Group Reaches Agreement To Purchase Penguins

Fenway Sports Group has reached an agreement with the Pittsburgh Penguins that would give the conglomerate controlling interest in one of the NHL's marquee franchises.

The Penguins announced Monday that the two sides have come to terms on a deal, which would need to be approved by the NHL's board of governors. A decision is expected by the end of the year.

NHL commissioner Gary Bettman is pledging to do better.

The league has been reeling from an investigation into the Chicago Blackhawks that showed the club mishandled allegations of sexual misconduct in 2010 by Kyle Beach against former Blackhawks video coach Brad Aldrich.

Speaking at the Hockey Hall of Fame induction ceremony on Monday, Bettman acknowledged not only what Beach endured, but said the NHL will make changes because of it.

NHL commissioner Gary Bettman defended the league's role in the Chicago Blackhawks' sexual assault investigation regarding allegations made by former player Kyle Beach, including the league's decisions on additional discipline for those involved.

"We could not be more sorry for the trauma that Kyle has had to endure," Bettman said Monday. "And our goal is to do what is necessary to continue to move forward."
