Gary Bettman Meets With Kyle Beach To Offer Help

NHL commissioner Gary Bettman talked to Kyle Beach on Saturday about what the league can do to better protect its players after the former first-round pick said he was sexually assaulted by an assistant coach in 2010 and that his allegations were largely ignored by the Chicago Blackhawks.

Susan Loggans, an attorney representing Beach in a lawsuit against the team, said Bettman expressed his "sincere regret" over what Beach had experienced. He also offered the NHL's help with psychological services and anything else that the league had available.

According to a source, the investigation centers on whether Kane submitted a fraudulent vaccination card as well as on the domestic assault allegations made by his estranged wife, Anna Kane, in the recent divorce filing. The NHL has begun interviews on the case, and there is no timeline for a completion of the investigation.

Vegas Golden Knights goaltender Robin Lehner on Tuesday said he's encouraged by his talks with the NHL and NHLPA after accusing teams of giving players pain medication without prescriptions in a controversial Twitter thread Saturday.

Lehner intended to bring attention to the stalemate between the Buffalo Sabres and Lehner's former teammate Jack Eichel over his options for neck surgery. But his accusations that teams are pushing benzodiazepines and Ambien to players without prescriptions garnered the most attention, including from the NHL.

Lehner made the allegations on Twitter on Saturday in an effort, he told ESPN, to call attention to the surgery stalemate between his former teammate Jack Eichel and the Buffalo Sabres.

The Swedish goalie threatened to release one story a day unless things "get fixed."
