NHL Suspends Pronger

Ducks captain Chris Pronger was suspended for eight games without pay by the NHL for stomping on Canucks forward Ryan Kesler's leg, according to an ESPN.com report. Pronger, noted as an aggressive defenseman who has been suspended seven times previously by the league, was accused of intentionally stepping on Kesler's left leg as the two jockeyed along the back boards early in the second period of Wednesday's game. The incident occurred after Pronger became entangled with Canucks forward Ryan Kesler, who had fallen to the ice. Kesler told the Vancouver Sun after the game, "He stomped on me ... He got me on the calf."

Following is a statement from Tampa Bay Lightning Executive Vice President and General Manager Jay Feaster regarding left wing Andre Roy, who was sent home following the Lightning?s game at Philadelphia on March 6: ?Today I met with Andre Roy, and also met with John Tortorella and members of his coaching staff, regarding not just the incident that took place between periods and on the bench during the third period in Philadelphia on March 6, but also other situations that have taken place this season involving Andre. ?At this time I have directed Andre to take the week off away from the team, with pay, while our internal discussions and overall review continues. We will not have any further statement or comment to make at this time, and Andre has been asked by the Club not to discuss the matter with the media, until such time as there is a conclusive resolution.?

Panthers Suspend Kigler Without Pay

The Florida Panthers have suspended left wing Chad Kigler without pay for failing to report to the team following a trade from the Maple Leafs last week, according to the Associated Press. Immediately after the trade he asked for a leave of absence from Florida, which was allowed, but they expected him back by now.
