NHL Suspends Kings' Zeiler For Three Games
Los Angeles Kings forward John Zeiler has been suspended for three games, without pay, as a result of a boarding incident that took place during NHL Game #295, Nov. 22 against the Colorado Avalanche, the National Hockey League announced.
Zeiler was assessed a major penalty for boarding and game misconduct for hitting Colorado defenseman Adam Foote at 6:51 of the second period.
Under the terms of the Collective Bargaining Agreement, and based on his average annual salary, Zeiler will forfeit $8,770.17. The money goes to the Players' Emergency Assistance Fund.
Zeiler will miss tomorrow night's game at Calgary; Nov. 26 at Edmonton and Nov. 29 against Chicago. He will be eligible to return Dec. 1 against the Toronto Maple Leafs.
Devils' Mottau Suspended Two Games
Devils defenseman Mike Mottau received a two-game suspension from the NHL on Saturday for elbowing Islanders forward Frans Nielsen, as reported by the Associated Press.
The Devils announced his suspension the day after the game with the Islanders.
Isles' Pock Suspended Five Games
Islanders' defenceman Thomas Pock was suspended for five games without pay Friday for elbowing Senators' forward Ryan Shannon the previous night, according to an Associated Press report.
NHL Suspends Senators' Ruutu Two Games
The NHL on Wednesday fined Senators left wing Jarkko Ruutu two games for an incident in Tuesday?s game against the Canadiens, as reported by Yahoo.com.
Montreal's Kostopoulos Suspended 3 Games
Montreal forward Tom Kostopoulos has been suspended for 3 games by the NHL for a hit from behind on Toronto defenseman Mike Van Ryn in a game Saturday.
Just minutes into the game, Van Ryn chased a puck into his end. Kostopoulos came from behind and cross-checked Van Ryn face-first into the boards. Van Ryn suffered a concussion, a broken nose, and broken hand on the play. He had to be taken from the ice on a stretcher and is expected to miss a month.
"While it is my determination that Kostopoulos did not deliver a check to an unsuspecting opponent, his actions caused injuries," said NHL Senior Executive Vice President of Hockey Operations Colin Campbell.
