Team Toews Defeats Team Foligno In NHL All-Star Game

John Tavares of the Islanders matched a record with four goals, and Team Toews beat Team Foligno 17-12 on Sunday night in the highest-scoring NHL All-Star game, according to an ESPN.com report.

 

"We had so many good players on each team," said Flyers forward Jake Voracek, who tied another record with six points. "There's going to be a lot of goals."

Ryan Johansen of the Blue Jackets pulled a kid out of the stands and guided him to a goal to win the breakaway challenge, and the Predators Shea Weber fired the hardest shot with a 108.5 mph blast at the NHL All-Stars skills competition on Saturday night, according to an ESPN.com report.

In a wild and comic NHL All-Star draft to set the lineups for Sunday's game, almost nothing went the way anyone might have guessed, according to an ESPN.com report.

Crosby Receives Injection To Deal With Injury

Penguins captain Sidney Crsoby has received an injection to deal with an unspecified lower-body injury, according to an ESPN.com report.

The team said Friday that Crosby was injured during a loss to Montreal on Jan. 10. He tried to play through it but opted for further treatment. Crsoby will miss this weekend's All-Star Game. He will miss Tuesday's game against Winnipeg but could return when the Penguins play at Washington on Wednesday.

Sidney Crosby Will Miss All-Star Game

Penguins general manager Jim Rutherford announced on Thursday that captain Sidney Crosby will miss the All-Star Game with a lower-body injury.

Crosby joins Penguins teammate Evgeni Malkin in resting due to injuries during the All-Star break, with Malkin also withdrawing because of a lower-body injury.

Pekka Rinne To Miss Three To Five Weeks

Preators goaltender Pekka Rinne will miss the next three to five weeks with a sprained knee, the team announced.

The Predators initially announced Rinne would miss the team's next three games as well as the All-Star Game in Columbus, Ohio, because of the injury but updated the time he would miss later Thursday after the Finnish goaltender met with the team doctor.

Foligno, Toews Named All-Star Captians

Nick Foligno of the Blue Jackets and Jonathan Toews of the Blackhawks have been named team captains for the 2015 NHL All-Star weekend Jan. 23-24 in Columbus, league officials said Wednesday.

The NHL said the All-Star teams will now be designated as Team Foligno and Team Toews.

NHL Completes All-Star Roster

Drew Doughty and Anze Kopitar of the Stanley Cup champion Kings were among the 36 players added to the NHL All-Star roster Saturday for the Jan. 25 game in Columbus, Ohio.

Earlier this month, Jonathan Toews, Corey Crawford, Patrick Kane, Duncan Keith, Brent Seabrook, and Zemgus Girgensons were selected in fan voting.

The two teams will be determined during the NHL All-Star Fantasy Draft on Jan. 23. Captains for each squad will be announced next week.

The NHL is going with two coaches from the Western Conference for the All-Star Game in Columbus, picking Peter Laviolette of the Predators and Darryl Sutter of the Kings, according to an ESPN.com report on Friday.

Girgensons, Five Blackhawks Earn NHL All-Star Spots

Five members of the Blackhawks are among the initial six selections for the NHL midseason showcase, according to an ESPN.com report on Saturday

Forwards Patrick Kane, Jonathan Toews, defensemen Duncan Keith and Brent Seabrook, and goalie Corey Crawford earned spots Saturday based on fan voting.

The only non-Chicago All-Star in the group is Sabres center Zemgus Girgensons, who was the leading vote-getter in the six-week campaign with 1,574,896.
