Ben Eager Charged With Assault In Bar

Oilers forward Ben Eager has been charged with assault following a disturbance in a Toronto bar last weekend, according to an ESPN.com report.

Police say Eager and his brother Michael Eager have been charged with threatening bodily harm, causing bodily harm and assault with a weapon.

Bettman, NHL Unhappy With Union's Response

Commissioner Gary Bettman said the NHLPA made three counteroffers to the league's latest proposal on Thursday, but they were "nowhere close" to what the league offered Tuesday.

"We were done in an hour today because there was really nothing there," Bettman said after leaving the NHLPA offices in Toronto.

NHL Offers Players 50-50 Split

The NHL has offered a new deal to its players, proposing a 50-50 split in hockey-related revenue and a full 82-game season starting November 2, according to an ESPN.com report.

Commissioner Gary Bettman announced the offer Tuesday in Toronto, where the league and the NHLPA discussed core economic issues.

"We hope we've given our best shot," Bettman told reporters.
