Forsberg Has More Ankle Surgery

Mar 7, 2014 9:47 PM

Peter Forsberg's hockey future once again is under a cloud of uncertainty as the former Avalanche star had surgery Thursday on his right ankle. Forsberg's agent, Don Baizley, confirmed his client had surgery at a hospital in Gothenburg, Sweden, about 650 miles from his hometown of Ornskoldsvik. But Baizley, who also represents Avalanche captain Joe Sakic, called the surgery a minor procedure. "I just talked to him a couple of hours ago, and he's doing well," Baizley said. "It was a small thing they did, and it's my understanding he'll be able to be up and around in a few days, and even be able to run." Still, Baizley acknowledged that he doesn't know for sure whether Forsberg will be healthy enough to play at the NHL level this season. "If he's 100 percent able to play, then he will. But he's not in a situation to make that determination yet," Baizley said.

Agent For Theodore Expects Him To Stay In Colorado

Sep 11, 2014 5:59 PM

The agent for Jose Theodore expects the 30-year-old goalie to return to the Avalanche in 2007-08 and believes he is capable of regaining his award-winning form of five years ago. "Yes, I do," Don Meehan said Wednesday. "His confidence is good. He'll be ready. He's going to work hard this summer. He'll be positive; he'll be back." There has been plenty of speculation the Avalanche might buy out the remaining year of Theodore's contract. He would have to be paid $4 million - two-thirds of the $6 million he's owed - but his salary cap figure is $5.3 million, so the savings would be nominal and the Avalanche would need a replacement.

Mar 23, 2014 1:16 PM

Pierre Turgeon, the NHL's 27th all-time leading scorer who played his final two seasons with the Avalanche, has decided to retire. Sources close to the 37-year-old Turgeon said he will make an official announcement soon. He will live with his family in the Denver area, where he helps coach his daughter's hockey team. Turgeon, who scored 515 goals and 1,327 points in 1,294 career games with six NHL teams, signed a two-year, $3 million contract with Colorado in 2005, the same day the Avs lost star Peter Forsberg to free agency. Turgeon posted 16 goals and 46 points in 62 games for the Avs in 2005-06 but suffered a shoulder injury late in the season that required offseason surgery.
