Maple Leafs Sign Mark Giordano To Two-Year Extension

The Toronto Maple Leafs signed veteran defenseman Mark Giordano to a two-year contract extension Sunday.

The average annual value of the contract is $800,000.

Giordano, 38, had eight goals and 27 assists in 75 games last season split between Toronto and the Seattle Kraken.

The Nashville Predators have extended the contracts of coach John Hynes and his assistants through the 2023-24 season, trying to build on a season with several individual successes for a franchise that wound up being swept in the playoffs for the first time.

General manager David Poile announced Thursday that Hynes and his assistants have agreed to the extensions.

The Nashville Predators have signed Iaroslav Askarov to a three-year, entry-level contract, two years after making him the sixth Russian-born goalie taken in the NHL draft's first round at No. 11 overall.

The 19-year-old spent most of the 2021-22 season with the VHL's Neva Saint Petersburg in his native country.

The New York Islanders on Monday hired longtime Barry Trotz assistant and right-hand man Lane Lambert to succeed Trotz as coach.

General manager Lou Lamoriello announced Lambert as Trotz's replacement a week after firing the Stanley Cup-winning coach, who had one year left on his contract.
