Jean-Sebastien Giguere and Jonas Hiller will compete for the starting goalie job in Anaheim. Giguere wants to earn back the job he lost last season while struggling to deal with the death of his father. Hiller hopes to keep the job after leading the Ducks to the playoffs while in the net last season. "Both players have been informed that it's not a given here," coach Randy Carlyle told the Los Angeles Times. "You have to go out and earn it." The pair are preparing for a battle, but are only concerned with what they are doing. "The more I make saves, the better chance I have to stay in a lot of games," Giguere said. "I don't personally compete against Jonas. I can't control what Jonas does and he cannot control what I do." "I wasn't expecting that spot here in Anaheim," Hiller said. "I always try to do my best. If I play better than all the other guys here, then hopefully I can get that No. 1 job. But I know it's a lot of work and the expectations are higher than last year for myself."
