Kings Sign 11th Overall Pick

The Los Angeles Kings have agreed to terms on a three-year entry-level contract with goaltender Jonathan Bernier, the club?s first-round selection (11th overall) in the 2006 NHL Entry Draft, Kings President/General Manager Dean Lombardi announced today. Per club policy, terms of the agreement were not announced. Bernier, 18, was the highest ranked North American Goaltender in the 2006 Draft, and he also was one of two Kings first-round draft choices (the Kings selected forward Trevor Lewis as the 17th overall choice) this past July. Lewis agreed to a three-year entry level contract with the Kings in July.

The Kings are close to signing goaltender Jonathan Bernier, one of their two first-round picks in June, to a three-year entry-level contract, worth $850,000 a season, a source familiar with the negotiations said.

Center Anze Kopitar continued his impressive play in his first NHL season, assisting on three goals as the Kings won Saturday's home opener, 4-1 over the St. Louis Blues. Kopitar, a 19-year-old from Slovenia, had a pair of goals in his first NHL game, a 4-3 loss at Anaheim Friday. His three-point effort Saturday and a 35-save effort by goaltender Mathieu Garon helped the Kings remain undefeated in their past 12 home openers. They have eight wins and four ties.

Kings' Petiot Undergoes Successful Knee Surgery

Los Angeles Kings defenseman Richard Petiot today underwent successful surgery on his right knee, it was announced by Kings President/General Manager Dean Lombardi. Petiot, 24, suffered a sprained knee on September 9 during a Kings game as part of the 2006 Pacific Division Shootout rookie tournament. He was placed on the injured reserve list by the Kings on October 3 as the club set its 23-man roster.
