Two days after having a photo of a new jersey leaked, the Buffalo Sabres officially introduced their new uniforms at an open practice Saturday. The new logo, a gold bison charging in an arc, was leaked during the summer, and more than 20,000 fans signed online petitions protesting the new look. But the Sabres forged ahead, believing fans would warm up to the logo once they saw it on the new home and away jerseys. They also announced in July that a third jersey would be used, featuring the original logo used by the team from 1970 through 1996. Saturday, about 8,000 fans attended the practice and gave the team a rousing ovation when they took the ice in the new uniforms. In addition to the new logo, players' numbers appear on the front of the shirt, just below the right shoulder. "There were petitions and passion ? how do you manufacture that?" said Sabres managing partner Larry Quinn. "I'm happy with the way it worked out." He added, "I think fans like the jersey, but they really love the team."
