The Maple Leafs claimed centre Dominic Moore off waivers from the Wild on Friday. Moore, 27, had three points (1-2) in 30 games for the Wild this season.

Minnesota Wild President and General Manager Doug Risebrough today announced the National Hockey League (NHL) club has activated center Mikko Koivu from injured reserve and that center Dominic Moore has been claimed off waivers by the Toronto Maple Leafs. Koivu, 24 (3/12/83), has missed the last 24 games since suffering a broken bone in his leg on Nov. 16 in Vancouver. Koivu notched 16 points (5-11=16) and was a plus-5 in 19 games before suffering the injury. The 6-foot-2, 200-pound native of Turku, Finland, has 91 points (31-60=91) in 165 career NHL games - all with Minnesota. Koivu was Minnesota?s first round pick (No. 6 overall) in the 2001 NHL Entry Draft. Moore, 27 (8/3/80), has posted three points (1-2=3) in 30 games for the Wild this season and has accumulated 41 points (18-23=41) in 186 career NHL games with the New York Rangers and Wild. Moore was acquired from Pittsburgh for Minnesota?s third-round pick in the 2007 NHL Entry Draft on Feb. 27, 2007.

The Canucks claimed centre Kris Beech off waivers from the Blue Jackets on Thursday. Beech had nine points (5-4) in 16 games for Columbus this season while also spending time with AHL Syracuse. The 26-year-old is earning US$585,000 and is eligible to become an unrestricted free agent on July 1.

The Flyers placed both centre Jim Dowd and defenceman Rory Fitzpatrick on NHL waivers Thursday. "At the end of the day, we felt it would give us more roster flexibility if they both clear," Flyers' GM Paul Holmgren told the Philadelphia Inquirer from the World Junior Tournament in the Czech Republic. "It will allow us to do more things with our team, maybe even bring up a defenceman."

Sergei Samsonov's time with the Blackhawks is likely over. The 29-year-old left wing cleared NHL waivers Monday and will likely be sent to the minors, according to the Chicago-Sun Times. Samsonov, who was acquired in an offseason trade with the Canadiens, has failed to score a goal in 23 games this season. He has just four assists and a minus-seven rating.
