Auston Matthews Scores 60th Goal For Second Time

Auston Matthews scored his 60th goal of the season for the Toronto Maple Leafs in a 3-0 win against the Buffalo Sabres at KeyBank Center on Saturday.

It's the second time in his NHL career that Matthews has reached the mark, having previously done so in 2021-22, when he scored 60 goals in 73 games.

Wayne Simmonds To Retire A Flyer After 15 NHL Seasons

Forward Wayne Simmonds announced his retirement from the NHL on Monday after 15 seasons with six teams.

The Philadelphia Flyers are signing him to a one-day contract and will honor his career on April 13 during a game against the New Jersey Devils.

Simmonds, 35, appeared in 1,037 games and tallied 526 points (263 goals, 263 assists) and 1,313 penalty minutes.

The Toronto Maple Leafs have acquired veteran defenseman Joel Edmundson from the Washington Capitals.

The Leafs traded a 2024 third-round pick that previously belonged to the New York Islanders and a 2025 fifth-round pick that belonged to the Chicago Blackhawks. The Capitals retained 50% of Edmundson's salary, leaving Toronto with a $875,000 cap hit for the defenseman.

Maple Leafs Acquire Ilya Lyubushkin In Three-Team Trade

The Toronto Maple Leafs acquired Anaheim Ducks defenseman Ilya Lyubushkin on Thursday night in a three-way trade that also involved the Carolina Hurricanes.

Anaheim received Toronto's 2025 third-round pick and retained 50% of Lyubushkin's salary. Carolina received a 2024 sixth-round pick to retain 50% of Lyubushkin's remaining salary. Hence, the Maple Leafs will have only $687,500 count against their salary cap for the veteran defenseman, leaving them with flexibility ahead of the March 8 NHL trade deadline.
