The Maple Leafs have waived defenseman Jeff Finger, according to an Associated Press report.
Coach Ron Wilson said Tuesday the team intends to assign him to their minor league affiliate if he goes unclaimed.
Finger is earning $3.5M in the third year of a $14M, four-year contract he signed in 2008.

Both players are expected to be assigned to Wilkes-Barre/Scranton if they clear waivers. They were signed as free agents during the offseason.

Lightning Claim Ritola Off Waivers From Wings
The Lightning have claimed center Mattias Ritola off waivers from the Red Wings today, Vice President and GM Steve Yzerman announced.
Ritolahas appeared in seven career NHL games, recording one assist. He skated in five games with the Red Wings last season, registering an even rating while averaging 11:41 in ice time. He also appeared in one Stanley Cup Playoff game.
Leafs Assign 4 Players To Marlies, Waive 3 Others
Brian Burke, President and GM of the Maple Leafs, announced Monday that four players have been assigned to the Marlies of the AHL.
The following players were assigned to the Marlies: forwards Luca Caputi, Christian Hanson, Nazem Kadri, and goaltender Jussi Rynnas.
Defenceman Danny Richmond and forwards Jay Rosehill and Mike Zigomanis were placed on waivers today.
Ducks Place Festerlilng, Syvret On Waivers
The Ducks have put defensemen Brett Festerling and Danny Syvret on waivers, according to an Associated Press report.
The club made the moves Thursday.
Oilers Waive Souray, Gerber
The Oilers have waived defenseman Sheldon Souray and goalie Martin Gerber, according to an Associated Press report on Thursday.
If none of the other 29 teams put in a claim for either player by Friday at noon EDT, the Oilers can send the veterans to Oklahoma City of the AHL.
