The top stories from this week in hockey... The Toronto Maple Leafs retired Doug Gilmour's No. 93 on Saturday night. Gilmour became the 17th Leaf to have his number retired. Leafs defenseman Tomas Kaberle will be out four weeks with an apparent hand injury. Toronto called up Anton Stralman to take his spot on the roster. The Ottawa Senators fired Coach Craig Hartsburg on Monday. The Senators were 17-24-7 under Hartsburg. Cory Clouston, who was coaching the AHL's Binghamton Senators, will take over behind the bench. Blues goalie Chris Mason has been red hot as of late. Mason has only allowed two goals in his past three contests, posting two shutouts during that span. Despite the success, Mason still owns a 6-14-1 record this season. Marty Turco won his first career game at Joe Louis Arena this past week. The veteran goalie stopped 22 shots to lead the Stars over the Red Wings 4-2. Turco is now 1-8-2 when playing in Detroit. Henrik Zetterberg signed a 12 year, $73 million contract with the Wings this past week. The deal will keep him in the Motor City until he is a ripe 40-years-old. Surprising Stats from the NHL -Minnesota rookie Cal Clutterbuck leads the league in hits with 180. -The Coyotes' Zbynek Michalek leads the league with 175 blocked shots. -Pittsburgh's Michael Zigomanis has had great success in the faceoff circle, winning almost 63% of draws he has taken. -Vancouver's Kyle Wellwood has scored 14 goals despite taking only 52 shots. -Calgary's Dion Phaneuf has taken 166 shots but has scored only 5 goals. -The Islanders' Brendan Witt is a terrible -21 on the road this season. -Zach Parise leads all American-born players with 58 points. Around College Hockey Top ranked Notre Dame split a weekend series against Michigan. The Irish were defeated 2-1 on Friday night, ending their 20 game unbeaten streak. The Irish redeemed themselves on Saturday, defeating the Wolverines 3-2. The fifth ranked Minnesota Gophers were swept by Minnesota State this past weekend. The Mavericks outscored the Gophers 9-3 in the series. Bryan Leitch of Quinnipiac leads the nation in scoring with 44 points in 26 games.
