Kovalev notched three points and recorded the game winning shootout goal. It was Kovalev's first All-Star MVP award. Boston Bruins defenseman Zendo Chara won the Hardest Shot competition this past weekend. Chara's slap shot was clocked at 105.4 mph. The shot was the hardest ever recorded at the All-Star competition. Al Iafrate held the previous high of 105.2 mph. Chara has now won the hardest shot competition the last three years. The NHL handed Pavel Datsyuk and Nicklas Lidstrom a one game suspension for failing to show up in Montreal for All-Star weekend. The All-Star duo will be forced to sit out the Red Wings next scheduled game against Columbus on Tuesday. Rubber Is Now Worth More Than Gold? The puck that was used by Pavel Datsyuk to score the seventh goal of the Winter Classic sold for $1,927.11 on NHL.com last week. Andrew Brunette's consecutive games played streak almost came to an end this past week. Brunette played through an apparent knee injury to keep the streak alive. Brunette, the NHL's iron man, should play his 500th consecutive game on Tuesday against Toronto. Rick DiPietro is officially out for the season. The Islanders franchise goalie played in only five games this season, earning around a million dollars per appearance.
