Rangers coach John Tortorella believes that restricted free-agent Marc Staal grew in a number of ways last season.
Staal is seeking a deal north of $4 million annually and negotiations have been slow.
Tortorella described Staal as a "good guy," whose play grew "instinctive" both offensively and defensively the last two months of the season.
The coach added that he only wants signed players in training camp.
