The Anaheim Ducks announced today that the National Hockey League (NHL) club has recalled defenseman Brian Salcido from the Iowa Chops, Anaheim?s primary development affiliate in the American Hockey League (AHL). In addition, the Ducks have reassigned defenseman Brett Festerling to Iowa. Salcido, 23 (4/14/85), scored 7-25=32 points with 69 penalty minutes (PIM) in 54 games with Iowa this season. Salcido, who has played in the last two AHL All-Star Classics, led the Chops in assists, tied for the team lead in appearances, ranked second in points and paced team defensemen in points-per-game (0.59) at the time of his recall. The Hermosa Beach, California native collected a season-high 1-3=4 points on Dec. 27 and followed up with a three-point effort (1-2=3) on Dec. 29 as part of a home-and-home series against Rockford. Selected in the fifth round (141st overall) of the 2005 NHL Player Draft, Salcido has never appeared in an NHL game. He has played three seasons in the AHL with Iowa (2008-09) and Portland (2006-08), scoring 25-87=112 points with 199 PIM in 201 games. In 2007-08, Salcido finished second in scoring among AHL blue-liners with 11-42=53 points in 71 games. Festerling, 22 (3/3/86), scored 0-5=5 points with a +6 rating and 16 PIM in 37 games with the Ducks this season. He made his NHL debut on Nov. 16 vs. Los Angeles and earned his first NHL point with an assist on Dec. 3 at Chicago. The Quesnel, British Columbia native began the regular season with Iowa, collecting 0-6=6 points with a +2 rating and 14 PIM in 15 games. Signed as a free agent on Sept. 14, 2005, Festerling spent his first professional season with Portland (AHL) in 2007-08, collecting 3-11=14 points with 64 PIM in 74 games. In the 2008 Calder Cup Playoffs, he helped the Pirates to an Eastern Conference Finals appearance, scoring 1-3=4 points in 15 games.
