The Tampa Bay Lightning have recalled goaltender Karri Ramo and defenseman Jay Leach from the Norfolk Admirals of the American Hockey League, Executive Vice President and General Manager Jay Feaster announced. Leach has been recalled on an emergency basis. Ramo, 21, has appeared in six games with Norfolk this season, recording a 2-4 record with a 3.33 goals-against average and a .898 save percentage. He was sidelined for several weeks with an ankle injury and returned to action on December 1. The 6-foot-2, 201-pound native of Asikkala, Finland, appeared in two games with the Lightning last season, posting a 3.43 goals-against average. Ramo played in 45 games with the AHL?s Springfield Falcons last season and posted a 3.13 goal-against average, .906 save percentage and one shutout in his first North American season. He was the only representative from the Falcons chosen to the 2007 AHL All-Star Game and made nine saves in one period of work. Ramo was also named the winner of the Rbk Hockey Top Goaltender award in the skills competition, stopping 15 of 19 shots on the night. Selected by the Lightning in the sixth round, 191st overall at the 2004 NHL Entry Draft, Ramo helped HPK Hameenlenna to the Finnish Championship in 2005-06, his first year with the team. He played in 24 games for HPK, posting a 2.16 GAA and a .929 save percentage. He represented Finland at the 2006 World Junior Championships and played in one game en route to winning a bronze medal. Leach, 6-4 and 220 pounds, was signed as a free agent by the Lightning on July 3 of this year. He has played 28 games with the Admirals this season, recording three goals, three assists and 29 penalty minutes. The 28-year-old played 73 games with the Providence Bruins last season, netting two goals and recorded seven assists while leading the team with 128 penalty minutes. A native of Syracuse, New York, Leach has played in 269 career AHL games with Norfolk, Springfield, Providence and Bridgeport scoring 14 goals and recording 33 points. His best offensive season was 2005-06 when he set career highs for goals with five, assists with 11 and points with 16 while playing for the P-Bruins. He also made his NHL debut with Boston in 2005-06, playing two games and recording a plus-1 rating with seven penalty minutes. He has also played in 43 Calder Cup Playoff games and recorded six points. Playing college hockey at Providence, he skated in 142 games and scored six goals while recording 52 points. In 2001, his senior year, he helped the Friars reach the NCAA tournament. Leach was selected by Phoenix in the fifth-round, 115th overall, at the 1998 NHL Entry Draft and was signed as a free agent by Boston on August, 23, 2005.
