Geoff Ward was fired as coach of the Calgary Flames on Thursday and replaced by Darryl Sutter.

Sutter coached the Flames for three seasons from 2002-06 and was their general manager from 2003-10. He has been an adviser to the Anaheim Ducks coaching staff since July 2019, and last coached in the NHL for the Los Angeles Kings in 2016-17, his last of six seasons with them. The Kings won the Stanley Cup in 2012 and 2014.
