Taylor Hall scored twice and the Boston Bruins extended their NHL-record streak of home victories to open a season to 13 games with a 3-1 victory over the Tampa Bay Lightning on Tuesday night.

The Tempe City Council unanimously approved the Arizona Coyotes' arena and entertainment district proposal on Tuesday night, giving it emphatic support ahead of the May 16, 2023, voter referendum that will decide its fate.

The Coyotes are seeking to build a 16,000-seat arena and entertainment district on city-owned land at Rio Salado Parkway and Priest Drive, at the west end of Tempe Town Lake. 

The Boston Bruins set the NHL record for most home victories to start a season with their 12th straight, topping the Carolina Hurricanes 3-2 in overtime Friday with a power-play goal from David Pastrnak.

The Bruins broke the mark of 11 that was set by the 1963-64 Chicago Blackhawks and equaled last season by the Florida Panthers.

As the New Jersey Devils celebrated their franchise record-tying 13th consecutive victory Monday night, a sold-out home crowd rose to its feet to commemorate the moment.

"I think the team deserves a standing ovation. A run like this is incredible," Devils coach Lindy Ruff said following his team's 5-2 win over the Edmonton Oilers.

Akira Schmid made 25 saves, and the New Jersey Devils beat the Ottawa Senators 5-1 on Saturday for their 12th straight victory.

Erik Haula, Nathan Bastian, Jesper Boqvist, Yegor Sharangovich and Michael McLeod scored for New Jersey (15-3-0).

David Pastrnak scored twice, part of a dominant effort that ended with four consecutive goals to conclude the scoring as the Boston Bruins defeated the Chicago Blackhawks 6-1 on Saturday night.

The win allowed the Bruins to tie an NHL record with 11th straight home victories to start the season, matching a mark reached by the Florida Panthers last season, and the Blackhawks in 1963-64.

Yegor Sharangovich scored 57 seconds into overtime, Vitek Vanecek made 25 saves and the New Jersey Devils beat the Toronto Maple Leafs 3-2 on Thursday night for their 11th straight victory.

Sharangovich scored his fourth goal of the season on a rebound after Jack Hughes stole the puck, beating goalie Matt Murray.

"We just don't think about the streak,'' Sharangovich said. "We just think about the next game.''

Patrice Bergeron scored his third goal in two days and the Boston Bruins set a team record with their ninth straight home win to start the season, beating the Vancouver Canucks 5-2 on Sunday night.

The Bruins bettered the team's 8-0 start at the old Boston Garden in 1983-84.

"I think everyone's contributing and playing for the team. I think that's the biggest thing right now," Bergeron said.
