The Tampa Bay Lightning have recalled right wing Steve Downie and goaltender Karri Ramo from Norfolk of the American Hockey League, it was announced by Executive Vice President & General Manager Brian Lawton. Downie, a 5-foot-10, 192-pound native of Newmarket, Ontario, has recorded two goals, an assist and 31 penalty minutes in 18 games with the Lightning and Philadelphia this season. Acquired in a trade with the Flyers on November 7, Downie has skated in 23 AHL games with Norfolk and Philadelphia this season tallying nine goals and 33 points. He has played in 50 career NHL games recording eight goals and 15 points and 104 penalty minutes. Downie, 21, played in 190 career junior games with Windsor, Peterborough and Kitchener. He amassed 82 career goals and 234 points. He also appeared in 43 OHL playoff games, recording 18 goals and 53 points. Downie was originally drafted by Philadelphia in the first round, 29th overall, at the 2005 NHL Entry Draft. Ramo, 22, appeared in two games for the Lightning during his most recent recall earlier this month, making 29 saves to earn a 4-3 victory at Anaheim on January 9. He has played 26 games this season with Norfolk, posting a 7-14-4 record with a 3.78 goals-against average and a .884 save percentage. He made his first appearance for the Lightning this season on November 23 at New Jersey, making 15 saves in relief. The 6-foot-2, 207-pound native of Asikkala, Finland was drafted by the Lightning in the sixth round, 191st overall, at the 2004 NHL Entry Draft. In 27 career appearances with Tampa Bay, Ramo has compiled an 8-12-3 record with a 3.23 goals-against average.
