The Islanders are on a three-game winning streak, largely due to the strong play of John Tavares.
Tavares has a 12-game points streak, with eight goals and 21 points over the period.
“I’m certainly aware of how skilled a player he is,” Leafs goalie Jonas Gustavsson said after the morning skate.
Tavares grew up in the Toronto area.
“To be honest, I enter every game with the same mindset. I approach every game the same way. I try to bring a great attitude and a good work ethic to each game,” Tavares said. “I’ve been trying to be consistent on a nightly basis, both offensively and defensively, for the 2˝ years that I’ve been in this league. And capitalize on my chances. I keep challenging myself to be better."
Coach Ron Wilson said he plans to use his “better defensemen” against Tavares and his line.
