Nashville Predators President of Hockey Operations/General Manager David Poile announced today that the club has signed goaltender Dan Ellis to a two-year, $3.5 million contract. ?We have the utmost confidence that Dan Ellis is a No. 1 goaltender in the National Hockey League,? Poile said. ?When given the opportunity to display his skill and talent, he rose to the occasion, and was a crucial part of our team making the playoffs in 2008. We believe he, paired with Pekka Rinne, will make for a solid goaltending duo in 2008-09 and beyond.? Ellis, 28 (6/19/80), led the National Hockey League in save percentage (.924) in addition to tying for third in the NHL and establishing a franchise record in shutouts (6) in his first full season with Nashville in 2007-08. The Newmarket, Ont., native, who had played just one NHL game with Dallas prior to 2007-08, also posted a 23-10-3 record and a 2.34 goals-against average in his first full season in the NHL.
