On Saturday afternoon in Sunrise, Fla., Andong Song, 18, became the first player born in China to ever get drafted by an NHL team, selected in the sixth round, No. 172 overall, by the New York Islanders.
“It feels great. Unbelievable experience. Really honored to be the first,” he said.
The first round of the 2015 NHL Draft was held at BB&T Center on Friday, as reported by NHL.com.
The draft resumes Saturday with rounds 2-7 (10 a.m. ET; NHLN, TVA Sports).
