The top stories from this week in hockey... After months of speculation the Toronto Maple Leafs hired Brian Burke as their GM. The Leafs inked Burke to a six year deal in hopes that he can lead them to the promise land. Claude Lemieux is attempting a comeback to the NHL. The 43-year-old signed a minor league contact with the San Jose Sharks. Lemieux has been out of the NHL since the 2002-2003 season. The Sharks assigned Lemieux to their AHL affiliate the Worcester Sharks where he has posted a goal and an assist through two games. Congratulations to Keith Tkachuk on scoring his 1,000th NHL point on Sunday. The 36-year-old center seems to have found the fountain of youth this season. The cagey veteran has 11 goals and five assists thus far. Phoenix Coyotes defenseman David Hale scored his first NHL goal on Nov. 26th. The goal ended a 230 game scoreless drought. Former New Jersey Devil Ken Daneyko holds the all time NHL record for games without a goal. Daneyko was held scoreless for 256 straight games. The San Jose Sharks appear to be the team to beat in the NHL. The Sharks are 20-3-1 on the season and are outscoring their opponents by a margin of 92 to 57. A 1987 Luc Robitaille game used jersey recently sold at an online auction site for $10,108.92. The Los Angeles Kings jersey was from Robitaille?s rookie year.
