Brendan Shanahan was talking and had movement in his extremities upon being treated in hospital following a violent mid-ice collision during the Rangers-Flyers NHL game Saturday afternoon. The 38-year-old left-winger was taken off the ice on a stretcher with 12 minutes remaining after a hard collision with Philadelphia's Mike Knuble. Shanahan was unconscious on his back for several minutes. Shanahan was skating towards the Rangers bench as Knuble came the other way with his eyes on the puck. Neither player saw the other and they slammed shoulder-to-shoulder. Shanahan went flying backward and struck his head against the ice when he fell. He moved his left leg slightly as medical personnel attended to him, and he appeared to also be bleeding from the mouth one day after extensive dental work. He lost a tooth Thursday night at Carolina after being struck by a puck.
