The Columbus Blue Jackets have signed center Derick Brassard to a four-year contract extension, which begins in 2010-11 and continues through the 2013-14 campaign, club General Manager Scott Howson announced today. As is club policy, terms were not disclosed. Brassard, 22, tallied 10 goals and 15 assists for 25 points with 17 penalty minutes and a +12 plus/minus rating in 31 games in 2008-09 before suffering a season-ending injury at Dallas on December 18. At the time of the injury, he was leading all NHL rookies in points, ranked second in goals and assists and third in plus/minus rating. He was the NHL's Rookie of the Month in October after notching 4-5-9 in 10 games. "We are pleased to have Derick under contract for the next five years," said Howson. "Derick's determination, passion and talent make us believe he will be an important part of our team in the coming years."
