The Columbus Blue Jackets and defenseman Marc Methot have avoided arbitration by agreeing on a two-year contract, club General Manager Scott Howson announced today. As is club policy, terms were not disclosed. Methot, 24, has collected four goals and 17 assists for 21 points to go along with 75 penalty minutes and a cumulative plus/minus rating of +11 in 95 career NHL games. In his first full season with the Blue Jackets in 2008-09, he recorded 4-13-17, 55 penalty minutes and had a +7 plus/minus rating in 66 games. He scored the first goal of his NHL career at Nashville on October 18, while setting career highs in goals, assists, points and games played. The Ottawa, Ontario native spent the majority of three seasons from 2005-08 with the Syracuse Crunch, Columbus? American Hockey League affiliate. In 195 career AHL games, he registered 10-32-42, 263 penalty minutes and is +27. Prior to turning professional, he notched 8-34-42, 200 penalty minutes and was +91 in 198 games with the Ontario Hockey League?s London Knights from 2002-05.
