Detroit rookie Tomas Kopecky broke a collarbone a minute into the third period of the Red Wings' 3-2 victory over Chicago on Thursday night and is expected to miss up to three months following surgery.
The 24-year-old center will undergo surgery on Friday, the Red Wings said.
"That's a big blow for that kid," Detroit coach Mike Babcock said. "It's unfortunate for him because he's really getting better."
