Sean Avery?s return to the NHL moved a step closer Monday when the left wing was placed on re-entry waivers by the Stars. Avery, whose stint on re-entry waivers will last only 24 hours, now can be picked up by any team, starting in reverse order of the standings, that makes a claim. However, the Rangers reportedly are the only club interested in Avery, who spent 1 1/2 seasons with the team before signing with the Stars this past off-season. Avery needs to be on an roster by Wednesday?s trade deadline to be eligible for the playoffs.
