Despite the Coyotes' slow start, Gretzky said Tuesday he has no plans to resign as coach. That hasn't stopped speculation among league observers that fired Flyers coach Ken Hitchcock would be interested in being the Coyotes' coach. When contacted by the Delaware County (Pa). Times, Hitchcock would neither confirm nor deny if he was interested in joining the Coyotes. Coyotes General Manager Mike Barnett said, "there has been no discussion concerning Ken Hitchcock with this organization." Hitchcock and Gretzky worked together for Team Canada in the 2006 Winter Olympics, and Gretzky called Hitchcock to cheer him up after the Flyers made the coaching change. "I had a nice conversation with 'Hitch,' " Gretzky said. "He's a great man, a die-hard hockey guy. He loves to compete."
