The Philadelphia Flyers reached agreement with Coach John Stevens on a one-year contract extension on Friday. Stevens, 41, is in his first full season as coach after being promoted from assistant in October 2006. The Flyers are 16-13-3 (35 points) entering Friday night's game at Buffalo, four points behind Atlantic Division-leading New Jersey. "John has built strong relationships with many of our young players as well as with the players that joined us over the summer," Flyers' General Manager Paul Holmgren said in a statement. "We believe that he is the right coach to lead our team in a positive direction."
