The Columbus Blue Jackets have placed center Jiri Novotny on injured reserve, recalled defenseman Marc Methot and added goaltender Tomas Popperle to the roster on emergency recall from the Syracuse Crunch, the club?s American Hockey League affiliate, Blue Jackets' General Manager Scott Howson announced today. Novotny was placed on injured reserve retroactive to November 23 when he suffered a concussion against the Minnesota Wild at Xcel Energy Center. Methot, 22, has registered two goals and an assist with 32 penalty minutes in 20 games with the Crunch this season. He made his NHL debut last season on Feb. 25 vs. Nashville and played in 20 games for the Blue Jackets, recording 0-4-4 with 12 penalty minutes and a +5 plus/minus rating. In 149 career AHL games, he has tallied 5-27-32 with 165 penalty minutes. Popperle, 23, has gone 5-8-0 with a 3.30 goals-against average and .889 save percentage in 14 games with the Crunch this season. He made his NHL debut last season with the Blue Jackets, appearing in two games with a 1.35 GAA and .929 SV% in 44:30 of action. In 63 career AHL games, he has gone 30-27-4 with a 2.95 GAA and .891 SV%.
