A day after saying he would travel with the team for Wednesday's game against Washington, defenseman Mike Van Ryn said there has been a change of plans.
Van Ryn, out since Nov. 19 because of a bad right wrist, said Tuesday that he would receive a cortisone shot as part of a last-chance effort to avoid another surgery.
"This is just something to try to keep me playing," Van Ryn said. "Hopefully it will calm things down and I can play a lot longer."
Van Ryn has undergone two surgeries on the wrist, but could be facing a more extensive surgery if the cortisone shot doesn't help.
