The Maple Leafs announced today that the club has signed free agent defenceman Roman Polak to a one-year contract.

Polak split last season between Toronto and San Jose. He recorded one goal and 12 assists in 55 games with Toronto. With the Sharks, he collected three assists in 24 regular season games while also skating in 24 playoff games en route to San Jose’s appearance in the Stanley Cup Final.

Polak was originally acquired by Toronto from St. Louis for Carl Gunnarsson and Calgary’s fourth round selection in the 2014 Entry Draft (previously acquired, Ville Husso). He was traded to San Jose along with forward Nick Spaling in exchange for the Sharks’ second-round selections from the 2017 and 2018 Entry Drafts and forward Raffi Torres on February 22, 2016.
