Islanders head coach Jack Capuano confirmed a report on Tuesday that defenseman Travis Hamonic has rescinded his trade request.

Prior to the start of the 2015-16 season, Hamonic, 25, wanted to be closer to his Winnipeg home because a close family member had some serious health issues, so he asked GM Garth Snow to be traded.

The trade never happened and Hamonic helped the Islanders reach the second round of the 2016 Stanley Cup playoffs. According to Newsday, which first reported the story, Hamonic said that things at home have stabilized, leading to his change of heart.
