The Los Angeles Kings have agreed to terms on a multi-year entry level contract with defenseman Jack Johnson, Kings President/General Manager Dean Lombardi announced today. Johnson is expected to join the Kings for practice on Wednesday at Noon at the Toyota Sports Center in El Segundo (media availability immediately following practice) and will be available to play on Thursday, March 29, when the Kings face the Vancouver Canucks at 7:30 p.m. at STAPLES Center. Johnson, 20, is a 6-1, 215-pound native of Indianapolis who was the third overall selection (behind Sidney Crosby and Bobby Ryan) in the 2005 NHL Entry Draft. Originally drafted by the Carolina Hurricanes, he was acquired by the Kings along with defenseman Oleg Tverdovsky in exchange for center Eric Belanger and defenseman Tim Gleason on September 29, 2006. Johnson is one of eight current Kings to have been selected in the first-round and he is one of eight Kings currently 24 years of age or younger. Johnson most recently completed his sophomore season at the University of Michigan where he helped lead the Wolverines to the NCAA West Hockey Regional semifinals while recording 39 points (16-23=39) and 87 penalty minutes in 36 games.
