John Ferguson, vice-president and general manager of the Toronto Maple Leafs, announced Thursday that the team has signed forward Kris Newbury to a two-year contract extension. In keeping with club policy, financial details of the contract were not disclosed. Newbury, 25, made his NHL debut by playing in 15 games for the Maple Leafs this season. He has scored two goals and two assists, while registering 26 penalty minutes. Newbury has also skated in 37 games for the American Hockey League?s Toronto Marlies, collecting 36 points (12 goals, 24 assists), along with 87 penalty minutes. He was one of two Marlies players to participate in the AHL All-Star Skills Competition on January 28 and was originally selected to play in the 2007 AHL All-Star Game before his recall to the Maple Leafs on January 29. Newbury is one of 10 players to play for both the Maple Leafs and the Marlies this season.
