John Ferguson, vice-president and general manager of the Toronto Maple Leafs, announced Tuesday that the team has signed defenceman Reid Cashman of the Quinnipiac University Bobcats of the Eastern Collegiate Athletic Conference Hockey League (ECACHL). The contract for the Bobcats? captain is a one-year Entry Level agreement. Cashman will report to the Toronto Marlies of the American Hockey League. Cashman, 24, had three goals and 38 assists in 40 games for the Bobcats this season. He placed first on the team in assists and he finished second on the team with 41 points. Quinnipiac University (located in Hamden, Connecticut) advanced to the ECAC Hockey League tournament final this month but was eliminated by Clarkson University. Cashman?s impressive performance in the tournament led to a berth on the All-Tournament Team. He currently leads all NCAA Division I defencemen in points and ranks third among all players in assists. Earlier this season, Cashman was also selected to participate in the 2007 Pontiac Frozen Four Skills Challenge in St. Louis on April 6.
