Lightning' Dan Girardi Out Indefinitely

Lightning defenseman Dan Girardi is out indefinitely with a lower-body injury.

The team announced Girardi's status Wednesday before visiting the defending Stanley Cup champion Capitals. Girardi has missed the past five games.

The Tampa Bay Lightning have acquired defenseman Jan Rutta in a trade with the Chicago Blackhawks.

NHL-leading Tampa Bay also got a 2019 seventh-round draft pick from Chicago in exchange for defenseman Slater Koekkoek and a fifth-round selection in this year's draft.

The 28-year-old Rutta had 2 goals and 4 assists in 23 games with the Blackhawks this season. He also has spent time in the minors.

The four coaches for this month's NHL All-Star Game will be Paul Maurice of Winnipeg, Todd Reirden of Washington, Jon Cooper of Tampa Bay and Bill Peters of Calgary.

Each of the teams is a division leader -- Winnipeg (Central), Washington (Metropolitan), Tampa Bay (Atlantic) and Calgary (Pacific).

The NHL All-Star Weekend is Jan. 25-26 in San Jose, California.

Lightning Re-Sign Yanni Gourde To Six-Year Deal

The Tampa Bay Lightning have re-signed forward Yanni Gourde to a six-year deal worth almost $31 million, general manager Julien BriseBois announced Friday.

Gourde, 26, will make an average of $5.17 million under the new deal, which runs through the 2024-25 season.

Lightning Sign Nikita Kucherov To Eight-Year, $76M Extension

The Lightning didn't hesitate to lock up one of their own star players until 2027.

Right wing Nikita Kucherov signed an eight-year, $76 million extension that kicks in for the 2019-20 season, with an average annual salary of $9.5 million against the salary cap. Kucherov would have been a restricted free agent next summer. He has one more year on his current contract, carrying a $4,766,667 cap hit.

Kings Acquire Peter Budaj From Lightning For Andy Andreoff

The Kings have acquired goaltender Peter Budaj from the Lightning in exchange for forward Andy Andreoff, Kings Vice President and General Manager Rob Blake announced today.

The 35-year-old Budaj played in eight games last season with the Lightning, posting a 3-3-1 record, .876 save percentage and a 3.77 goals-against average.

Andreoff has appeared in 159 games over four seasons with the Kings, posting 24 points (13-11=24) and 214 penalty minutes.
