Coyotes Acquire Nick Schmaltz From Blackhawks

The Arizona Coyotes acquired center Nick Schmaltz from the Chicago Blackhawks on Sunday in exchange for forwards Dylan Strome and Brendan Perlini.

All three players in the deal are former first-round draft picks.

Radim Vrbata Retires After 16 NHL Seasons

Radim Vrbata, who played 16 seasons in the NHL for seven teams, announced his retirement.

The 37-year-old from the Czech Republic scored more than 20 or more goals in a season six times, including a career-high 35 for Phoenix in 2011-12. He scored 31 for the Canucks in 2014-15 and made his only All-Star appearance that season.

Blackhawks, Coyotes In Seven-Player Deal

The Chicago Blackhawks cleared cap space by trading Marian Hossa's contract to the Arizona Coyotes, and they got someone familiar in return.

In a seven-player deal that also included two draft picks, the Blackhawks received forward Marcus Kruger who was with Chicago from 2010 to 2017 and won two Stanley Cups.

The Blackhawks also sent young winger Vinnie Hinostroza and defenseman Jordan Oesterle to the Coyotes and received prospects MacKenzie Entwistle and Jordan Maletta and AHL player Andrew Campbell. Chicago sends a third-round pick in the 2019 draft and gets a fifth-round selection in the same draft.

The Arizona Coyotes have promoted Ahron Cohen to team president and CEO.

Cohen, who's promotion was announced on Tuesday, has served a variety of leadership roles in four years with the organization. He replaces former Arizona State and Texas athletic director Steve Patterson, who will advise the team as a consultant while pursuing outside business ventures.

Hurricanes Trade Marcus Kruger To Coyotes For Jordan Martinook

The Carolina Hurricanes have acquired left wing Jordan Martinook from the Arizona Coyotes in exchange for center Marcus Kruger.

Under terms of the deal announced Thursday, the teams also swapped later-round draft picks and the Hurricanes will retain 10 percent of Kruger's salary, or about $300,000 of the roughly $3 million Kruger is set to make in 2018-19.

Coyotes Sign Antti Raanta Through 2020-21

Antti Raanta handled injuries, a scorpion infestation, and a minor car wreck in his first season as a starting NHL goaltender.

Battling through all that earned him a three-year contract that makes him the Coyotes' franchise goalie for the foreseeable future. Raanta is scheduled to earn $12.75 million over the life of the deal that keeps him under contract through the 2020-21 season.

Vegas Golden Knights center William Karlsson, Arizona Coyotes goaltender Antti Raanta and Buffalo Sabres center Jack Eichel have been named the NHL's "Three Stars" for the week ending April 1.

FIRST STAR - WILLIAM KARLSSON, C, VEGAS GOLDEN KNIGHTS
Karlsson led the NHL with 3-6-9, including a pair of shorthanded goals, in four games as the Pacific Division champion Golden Knights (50-22-7, 107 points) became the first modern-era expansion team from any of the four North American professional sports leagues to start from scratch and finish first in its division (excluding mergers and all-expansion divisions). 

SECOND STAR - ANTTI RAANTA, G, ARIZONA COYOTES
Raanta went 3-0-0 with a 1.00 goals-against average, .964 save percentage and one shutout as the Coyotes (28-40-11, 67 points) won three of their four games for the week to improve to 16-8-2 dating to Feb. 8. 

THIRD STAR - JACK EICHEL, C, BUFFALO SABRES
Eichel placed second in the NHL with 3-5-8 in three games to help the Sabres (25-41-12, 62 points) pick up a pair of victories. He scored twice, including the winning goal, in a 3-2 triumph over the Toronto Maple Leafs March 26 before adding another goal in a 6-3 loss to the Detroit Red Wings March 29.

Jackets Trade John Ramage To Coyotes

The Blue Jackets have traded defenseman John Ramage to the Coyotes in exchange for future considerations, club General Manager Jarmo Kekalainen announced today.

Ramage, 26, has registered two goals and seven assists for nine points with 37 penalty minutes in 33 American Hockey League games with the Cleveland Monsters this season. He has skated in one game with the Blue Jackets in 2015-16 and added 14-47-61 and 171 penalty minutes in 170 games with the Monsters since signing as a free agent with Columbus on July 3, 2015.
