The New York Rangers traded forward Vladislav Namestnikov to the Ottawa Senators on Monday night in exchange for defenseman Nick Ebert and a fourth-round pick in the 2021 NHL draft.

John Tavares has been named captain of the Toronto Maple Leafs.
Toronto unveiled Tavares' new "C" as part of the pregame introduction for the team's season opener Wednesday against the Ottawa Senators. Forwards Auston Matthews, Mitch Marner and defenseman Morgan Rielly were named alternate captains.
Matthews scored twice in Toronto's four-goal second period, and the Leafs won 5-3.
Thomas Chabot has agreed to an eight-year, $64 million contract extension with the Ottawa Senators.
Chabot had one season remaining on his entry-level deal.
"At the end of the day, to be here for the next nine years and build something together with the group and get something going and be a real competitive team within the next couple years, this can only be exciting," Chabot said.
Chabot was the 18th pick in the 2015 NHL Draft.
The Ottawa Senators have signed center Colin White to a six-year, $28.5 million contract, the team announced.
The 22-year-old White stepped into the top center position and had a solid season with 14 goals and 27 assists.
White will be counted on to play a significant role next season as the team continues its rebuild.
The Ottawa Senators acquired forward Ryan Callahan in a trade with the Tampa Bay Lightning, the teams announced.
Goaltender Mike Condon is heading to Florida along with a 2020 sixth-round draft pick, while Ottawa also receives Tampa Bay's fifth-round pick for next year.
The Chicago Blackhawks have hired Marc Crawford as an assistant coach on Jeremy Colliton's staff.
The 58-year-old Crawford was the interim head coach for Ottawa at the end of last season. He also has served as the head coach for Colorado, Vancouver, Los Angeles and Dallas, leading the Avalanche to the Stanley Cup title in 1996.
The Ottawa Senators named D.J. Smith the team's new coach on Thursday. Smith, who is the 14th coach in the franchise's history, has been an assistant coach with the Toronto Maple Leafs the past four seasons.

The Columbus Blue Jackets have acquired Ryan Dzingel from the Ottawa Senators.
Columbus will also acquire a 2019 seventh-round pick previously owned by the Calgary Flames in exchange for Columbus's second-round pick in 2020, a second-round pick in 2021 and forward Anthony Duclair.
Dzingel, in his fourth NHL season, has 22 goals and 22 assists in 57 games
Dzingel played collegiately at Ohio State.
