Capitals Trade Picks To Kings For Carl Hangelin

The Washington Capitals acquired forward Carl Hangelin from the Los Angeles Kings on Thursday for draft picks.

The Kings, who got Hagelin for Tanner Pearson in November, receive a 2019 third-round pick and a 2020 conditional sixth-round selection from Washington.

Hagelin, who has struggled with two goals and eight points this season, is in the final year of a four-year, $16 million contract.

Maple Leafs Acquire Jake Muzzin From Kings

The Toronto Maple Leafs have acquired defenseman Jake Muzzin from the Los Angeles Kings in exchange for a first-round pick and two prospects.

The Kings get forward Carl Grundstrom and the rights to unsigned defenseman Sean Durzi in the deal.

Muzzin is signed through next season at a salary cap hit of $4 million.

Kings Claim Nikita Scherbak Off Waivers From Canadiens

The Kings have claimed right wing Nikita Scherbak off waivers from the Canadiens, Kings Vice President and General Manager Rob Blake announced today.

Scherbak is a native of Russia who has played in 29 career NHL games, all with Montreal.  He turns 23 on December 30.

Scherbak has not appeared in a game this season with Montreal.  He has played in five games with the Laval Rocket of the American Hockey League. 

Last season he played in 26 regular season games with the Canadiens and he recorded six points including four goals.

The Los Angeles Kings have fired coach John Stevens after a little more than one season and replaced him with former Canucks coach Willie Desjardins.

Stevens is the first NHL coach to lose his job this season.

The Kings are tied with the Florida Panthers for the fewest points in the league with nine.

Ilya Kovalchuk has agreed to a three-year deal with the Los Angeles Kings, the team announced Saturday.

The average annual value of the contract is $6.25 million, a source told ESPN.

"We are excited to add Ilya to the LA Kings organization," vice president and general manager Rob Blake said in a statement. "He gives us an added element of skill and scoring along with a desire to win. We will withhold further comment until July 1."

The Kings have acquired goaltender Peter Budaj from the Lightning in exchange for forward Andy Andreoff, Kings Vice President and General Manager Rob Blake announced today.

The 35-year-old Budaj played in eight games last season with the Lightning, posting a 3-3-1 record, .876 save percentage and a 3.77 goals-against average.

Andreoff has appeared in 159 games over four seasons with the Kings, posting 24 points (13-11=24) and 214 penalty minutes.
