Kings Buyout Final Two Years Of Dion Phaneuf's Contract

The Los Angeles Kings have bought out the final two years of defenseman Dion Phaneuf's contract.

The Kings made the move Saturday.

The 34-year-old veteran spent 93 games with the Kings, who acquired him in February 2018.

Kings Name Todd McLellan Head Coach

The Kings have agreed to terms with Todd McLellan on a multiyear contract to be the team's new coach, it was announced Tuesday.

He replaces Willie Desjardins, who served as the interim coach last season and was not retained after the two-time Stanley Cup-winning franchise slumped to the NHL's second-worst record this season.

McLellan, 51, will receive a five-year contract worth around $5 million annually, the Athletic reported. He also was a candidate for the coaching vacancy in Buffalo.

NHL Suspends Slava Voynov For The Entire 2019-20 Season

The NHL has suspended defenseman Slava Voynov for the 2019-20 season as well as the 2020 playoffs for "unacceptable off-ice conduct."

Voynov, then with the Los Angeles Kings, was suspended indefinitely by the NHL following an arrest on Oct. 20, 2014. He was eventually convicted of misdemeanor domestic abuse and was sentenced to 90 days in jail.

In July, Voynov's conviction was dismissed by a judge in Los Angeles County, paving the way for his return to the NHL.

The Los Angeles Kings announced Sunday that interim coach Willie Desjardins will not return next season.

"Today we thanked Willie Desjardins for his effort and dedication while serving as our interim head coach," Kings vice president and general manager Rob Blake said in a statement. "We wish Willie and his family nothing but the best going forward. The process for hiring our next head coach is underway and we look forward to conducting a thorough and expansive search for the right person to lead our team."

Capitals Trade Picks To Kings For Carl Hangelin

The Washington Capitals acquired forward Carl Hangelin from the Los Angeles Kings on Thursday for draft picks.

The Kings, who got Hagelin for Tanner Pearson in November, receive a 2019 third-round pick and a 2020 conditional sixth-round selection from Washington.

Hagelin, who has struggled with two goals and eight points this season, is in the final year of a four-year, $16 million contract.

Maple Leafs Acquire Jake Muzzin From Kings

The Toronto Maple Leafs have acquired defenseman Jake Muzzin from the Los Angeles Kings in exchange for a first-round pick and two prospects.

The Kings get forward Carl Grundstrom and the rights to unsigned defenseman Sean Durzi in the deal.

Muzzin is signed through next season at a salary cap hit of $4 million.

Kings Claim Nikita Scherbak Off Waivers From Canadiens

The Kings have claimed right wing Nikita Scherbak off waivers from the Canadiens, Kings Vice President and General Manager Rob Blake announced today.

Scherbak is a native of Russia who has played in 29 career NHL games, all with Montreal.  He turns 23 on December 30.

Scherbak has not appeared in a game this season with Montreal.  He has played in five games with the Laval Rocket of the American Hockey League. 

Last season he played in 26 regular season games with the Canadiens and he recorded six points including four goals.
